I'm sure you may have heard, but we had an earthquake here today that measured 5.4 on the Richter Scale. That's officially a "Moderate" earthquake. The center of the quake was located in Southeast LA, just about 8 miles from us, so we got some serious shakin'! Now, you may ask, "How did the girls handle the quake?" Never fear, they were having snacks and watching Alice in Wonderland, so they didn't even bat an eyelash! Meanwhile, their mom's in the kitchen, holding on to the counter and wondering if it would be better to stay inside or run outside. It was seriously crazy! My kitchen cabinets were all banging and the blinds in the living room were swaying. And it just feels so incredibly weird! It's indescribable! The scary thing about earthquakes, aside from their ability to destroy and kill, is the fact that it knocks out cell phone communications. It was over an hour before I was able to get a hold of Jared. At least I know that if an earthquake hits and he gets hurt, he's in a hospital!
So, any of you who are faithful readers of my blog may remember my entry on the earthquake we had last year. That one was only a 4.4 and it was in the middle of the night. I was extremely pregnant and was therefore "sleeping" on the couch. I was wide awake and felt it. Jared, who was not pregnant and sleeping soundly in bed, did not.
I'm okay with earthquakes as long as they stay mild to moderate and only happen once a year. I'll keep my fingers crossed and in the mean time, do some research on earthquake safety!

Hi Nancy--We were at Disneyland when the 5.4 earthquake hit. How fun! We were standing by the California Screamer and my first thought was that something had happened to the rollercoaster. When I turned around I say the lights swinging and realized that it was an earthquake. I don't know why back we all found it very exciting! Hope all is well with your cute little family. Holly
Nancy, that must have been so scary. we're in tornado land here and I keep waiting for the sirens to go off. Not yet...thankfully.
